The 39 Steps Test Walk-Up Audition Intake

A charming, quick-witted English gentleman who suddenly finds himself accused of murder and caught in an international spy conspiracy. Hannay is the central character of the play and requires strong comedic timing, physical acting, and leading-man presence.

Richard Hannay

One versatile actress portrays three very different women: Annabella Schmidt, Margaret, and Pamela. The role offers comedy, romance, suspense, multiple accents, and the challenge of creating three distinct characters.

Leading Lady

Female • Leading Role

One half of the show's comic powerhouse, portraying numerous characters of different ages, genders, personalities, and accents at a rapid pace. Requires excellent comedic timing, physical comedy, versatility, and a willingness to fully commit to the ridiculous.

Clown 1

Any • Supporting Role

The other half of the show's comic duo, also portraying a dizzying variety of characters—sometimes changing roles within seconds. This role demands energy, creativity, strong character work, physical comedy, and great chemistry with the other Clown.

Conflicts & Availability 

Please list any known conflicts that may affect rehearsals or performances for this production. Do not use this section for audition availability. Include school activities, sports, work, family commitments, vacations, appointments, or any other dates/times when you would be unavailable or have limited availability during the rehearsal and performance period.

Please be as complete as possible. Additional conflicts may be difficult to accommodate once the rehearsal schedule is created.
